You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. People come to counseling when something feels stuck, repeated, painful, confusing, or out of alignment with the life they want to live. Counseling can also be useful for personal growth, stronger relationships, healthier boundaries, greater self-awareness, and navigating life transitions.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. Complete the Contact Us form on our website or call 941-667-7455 to request an appointment.
Sessions are available in person or virtually, depending on your needs and availability. Once contact is made, we will help determine the appropriate next step and schedule your first session.
What makes your counseling approach different?
I use an integrative approach rather than forcing every client into one therapy model. Counseling is tailored to your story, goals, personality, relationships, values, and needs. The work is designed to be both a safe place for honesty and a brave space for meaningful growth.
Do you take insurance?
No. Striving Higher Counseling is currently private pay and does not accept insurance. A sliding-scale fee may be available depending on need and counselor availability.
What can I expect during my first session?
The first session is primarily about understanding what brought you in, what has been happening, what you want help with, and what you hope may be different. You do not need to arrive with everything organized or know exactly what type of therapy you need.
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. An 80-minute session may also be available for individual or couples counseling when appropriate.
How much does counseling cost?
Individual counseling is $125 for 50 minutes or $175 for 80 minutes. Couples counseling is $175 for 50 minutes or $225 for 80 minutes. Family counseling is $200 for 75 minutes. See the Services page for current fee information and sliding-scale availability.
Is Christian counseling required?
No. Striving Higher Counseling is grounded in a Christian worldview, but explicit faith integration is based on client preference. Some clients want prayer, Scripture, and spiritual discussion. Others prefer counseling that reflects Christian values without direct spiritual practices. Both are respected.
Do you offer virtual counseling?
Yes. Virtual appointments are available to clients located in Florida. In-person counseling is offered in Sarasota, Florida.
What if I am experiencing a mental health emergency?
Striving Higher Counseling is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. You can also call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
